The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was convicted of plotting a government overthrow in last fall and given more than 27 years in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after fresh information were revealed.

This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could facilitate a possible escape.
